50 Shades of Grey

’50 Shades of Grey’

Universally flattering and a perennial staple, this shade becomes seasonally appropriate with weightier fabrics and structured silhouettes in an array of shades from dove, silver and slate and through to charcoal and marled tones.
Tonal dressing relies on keeping the look cohesive; grey plays well with camel, white, black and blush pink. Adding black to grey-tones adds a nice depth to a haze of moody greys. Alternatively, slip into a nude pump to lighten the overall look for those warmer days.
Less really is more this season with ultra polished silhouettes and sleek designs, minimising the over-worked detailing. Classic cuts in soft muted hues have an understated elegance about them that never date and help to enhance that effortlessly chic appeal. Nix excess accoutrement and opt for one classic statement piece.
I particularly love Sincerely Jules’ addition of a leopard clutch, it breaks up the grey palette without injecting too much colour into the look.

Shopping in Seminyak, Bali

Shopping in Seminyak, Bali

I have just returned from a fabulous trip to Bali & Gili Islands. Despite spending most of my time relaxing/eating/drinking, I always manage to squeeze in a spot of shopping…

I’m going to give you the low down on the five must-visit shops in Seminyak.  Having trawled the various shopping precincts/streets of Seminyak I want to save you the time wandering in the agonizing humidity so you can get back to that villa pool, pronto! So, make a bee line for these five:

Mister Zimi
Mister Zimi

(Jalan Kayu Jati No.8X)

Get swept away by a glimmering palette of sun drenched colour in Mister Zimi’s eye-catching prints. Their silhouettes are a nod towards the mod era of the 60s, with exclusive prints that conjure up a vestige of vacations past.

If you’re anything like me and stick to the safety of a monochrome wardrobe, then it’s time for a palette refresh with some of their wonderfully whimsical tropical prints. These pieces are perennial fashion favourites.

Prized possession: My pineapple dress; it’s an oldie, but a goodie (yes, it is black and white…)

Mimpi Mannis

(Jalan Kayu Aya 39)

Mimpi Mannis hosts a collection of fabulously bright shoes and accessories guaranteed to get your pulse racing.  I can assure you,  you won’t come out empty handed!  And the best thing is, their sandals are only around $40.

Favorite pair: couldn’t decide, so I bought two!

Head to www.mimipmannis.com if you’re dying for a pair of these amazing sandals but aren’t heading to Bali anytime soon.

Gooseberry Intimates

Gooseberry Intimates

(Jl Laksmana Oberoi 117x, Seminyak)

A french inspired lingerie label made locally in Bali, this store guarantees you will walk out feeling ultra confident and sexy toting a black Gooseberry bag in  hand.
Black lace may be rooted in seductive evening intimate wear, but not under the watch of Gooseberry’s designer, these collections are made to be worn and seen under everyday wear. Think sensual and rebellious.

The lust-worthy collection: Innocence; with it’s delicate black lace detailing and bra styles to suit all breast sizes. I also love the ‘Effortless’ collection for everyday comfort.

Denim and Stripes

Denim & Stripes

Ready for a fashion getaway?  Denim and stripes are the ultimate power pairing for any summer vacation.

Take your style cue from denim devotee, Sincerely Jules, as she has some serious fashion credentials.
Temper denim shorts with a floaty boho style top or an oversized striped tee for effortless style, topped off with a panama hat for the finishing touch. For the cooler summer evenings, throw on a chambray shirt for extra coverage and revel this 9os revival of double denim, it’s ‘way cool’. Wear this look with your favourite pair of converse for a busy day of site seeing, or slip on a pair of grecian tan sandals for a trip to the beach bar.

To punctuate this fresh summer style, sport a cool pair of reflector shades and 30+ SPF sunscreen by day, or play up this neutral ensemble with a vibrant clutch and classic wedge heel for a summer soiree.

See you on the beach, babe!

Big Hair Don’t Care

“Big Hair, Don’t Care”

One cannot underestimate the power of GREAT hair, and I say, the bigger the better!

Rock that beach babe tousled hair look or channel your inner Victoria’s Secret angel with soft, seductive waves. If you are like me and your hair sits as straight as an arrow (…not all of us are blessed with naturally wavy hair), then here are some ways to add bounce and personality to your hair this season.

For those who are time poor or are after a more natural, surf tumbled look, spray in some sea salt mist and scrunch hair for effortless wavy tresses. This look is perfect for those days when your hair just won’t cooperate and you can opt for the elegantly dishevelled/’I woke up like this’ look.

If you’re willing to put in some ground work, luscious wavy locks are your one hair style to rule all Summer and will be guaranteed to turn heads. This style is all about the soft movement of your curls. Take your style cue from any Victoria’s Secret model.

Styling Tips:
1. Start with a clean slate; shampoo and condition your hair.
2. Massage in a volumising mousse on the roots of the hair whilst damp.
3. Blow dry hair upside down, using your fingers to separate the strands and add body to your hair.
4. For those seasoned GHD users, grab a strand of hair with the GHD facing down and out at an angle then, using both hands, guide the GHD in a circular motion inward, keep twisting until you reach the end of the hair. Use your index finger to further twist the hair into a ringlet whilst the follicle cools down.
5. For others less confident curling with a hair-straightener, invest in a curling wand. Again, segment the hair and wrap around the wand and hold for 8 seconds, then release.
6. Still looking a little flat? Use a root lifter for added volume ( I sometimes like to back comb at the crown and t-section).

Mirrored Sunglasses

Mirror mirror on my face, who’s the hottest in this place?!

No stylish summer outfit is complete without a pair of mirrored sunglasses. Reflective lenses are the perfect antidote to the sizzling summer heat so why not carry some bold attitude with a pair of colourful shades. Whether you’re brightening up a blank canvas of this season’s achromatic tones or going all out colour chameleon, these shades will be your go-to accessory for the season. Trust me.

For more trans-seasonal shades, opt for a neutral frame with silver or gold lenses as these will carry you through the winter months, toning perfectly with an autumnal palette of greys, blacks and camels.

I have an insatiable appetite for mirrored frames, and hence, I have been on the prowl for the perfect pair(s)! So put your best face forward with my line up of your must-have reflector shades:
